Home Irrigation FAQs

What is greywater?

Greywater is the waste water that goes down your drain from sinks, washing machines, baths and showers. It has the potential to be a vital source of an alternative water supply.

Greywater makes up about 50% of the waste water going down the drain in your home. By reclaiming and reusing it effectively, you can save up to 50% of your annual drinking water bill. Not to mention no more water restrictions and no more guilt, all while saving a vital resource.

Greywater can be used in many ways depending on whether it is treated or untreated.

Treated greywater can be used for above-ground irrigation, washing clothes, flushing toilets, washing cars, and can be stored for any length of time. Untreated greywater passes through a diverter system and is progressively expelled as sub surface irrigation to the garden. As there is the potential for harmful bacteria in the water, it can only be stored for a maximum of 24 hours.

We are happy to maintain your current greywater system for you too.

Can you help with greywater systems?

We are experts in grey water systems maintenance and installation, and can provide consulting advise as well as service a fix, upgrade or installation.

Do you fix outdoor tanks and pumps?

Yes we do! Whether it’s an existing tank or pump that is giving you grief, or you’ve bought a new one that you would like to install, you can call Home to Garden today for an obligation-free quote.

Some of the other ongoing issues we can resolve are:

  • leaking tank
  • leaking pump
  • noisy pump
  • rain to main pump not working
  • sludge in the cistern
Rainwater system design and install

Home to Garden can supply and fit a wide range of new water tanks to collect rainwater from your roof. We can advise on a system that would best suit your needs and what is possible for your individual situation.

Every time it rains, you have the opportunity to harvest that rain for use instead of the water out of the tap that you pay for. It can be used for:

  • gardens
  • toilets
  • washing machines
  • external taps for washing windows and cars.

Tanks don’t have to be unsightly. We can make them very discreet, placed underground or beneath the house or decking. Add a pump and a tap, and maybe some irrigation, and you’re ready to go.

Does my garden irrigation system need replacing or upgrading?

Sometimes all your existing system may need is a service. One or two broken or missing parts, and the whole system might not be running as efficiently as it should be.

We can also recommend ways to upgrade the system without completely changing it. With slight adjustments you could be in a position to use your sprinklers all year round no matter what the restrictions may be.

If you do need a new system, we are very knowledgeable in garden irrigation, so turn to us first for advice. We can design your entire irrigation system from scratch, and install it for you. We’re up to date with all the current products and training, so we have what it takes to help save you water and money.

During water restrictions, gardens are the first thing to suffer. We can avoid that by reviewing your current irrigation and advising on how it can be improved and optimised. We can also suggest ways to utilise recycled water from your appliances and roof.

Do you provide water management advice?

Water is no different to most other utilities, we are seeing very large price increases. We need to find ways of reducing the amount of water we use.

We offer consulting services to our customers who want to better understand how they can improve their water management from their home, right through to their garden.

Over the years we have worked hard to ensure you the customer is fully informed as to how you are able to reduce your water usage, and ways you can utilise recycled water.

I need help converting my BBQ gas

Save the hassles of having to keep purchasing that replacement gas bottle. We can convert your LPG gas BBQ to mains gas (NG). We can supply the necessary parts to convert your current BBQ so it can be used to cook with mains gas that you already use around your home. We can tap into your gas line that feeds you home and extend the pipe to supply your BBQ.

Andy was prompt and efficient. If any delays he advised me. He is a pleasant young man and I was very comfortable with him in the house. He explained all work. Andy cleaned up well at end of jobs.
Nereda, Brighton

I have found Andy easy to work with, flexible with times, always leaves the work area as clean as it was when he started and very easy to get along with customers. Our customer feedback has also been the same, on time, prices was as quoted and has a good understanding of how filters need to be installed.
Jonathan, Bentleigh

We had Home to Garden fix our Leaking garden pipes. A very prompt service. He gave good advice regarding different approaches (and costings) to fix the problem. Andy was lovely to deal with. He was recommended (and arranged) by our gardener, a referral we were happy to use.
Natasha, Balwyn

I would absolutely recommend Home to Garden. On time and professional, and their rates were very reasonable. Andy took the time to talk through the options for our replacement pump so I felt I was making an informed decision. Very happy with the service. 5*
